My free buffet at Valley View Casino

Well, here in San Diego County I always hear commercials on TV for Valley View Casino offering a "free lobster buffet" when you sign up for their players club. Since my mom is in town and likes casinos I thought it would be the perfect time to check it out. The buffet was incredible! The line was very long, we actually had to wait 45 minutes to even get in line (they gave us a ticket and time to come back so we went to play the penny slots while we waited - I spent a dollar and won 10). Once we got in line we waited about 30 minutes.

The buffet had king crab legs, steak, salmon, lobster, shrimp cocktail and just about everything else you can imagine. Regular price on the buffet is $26 and it was so good I am considering going back even if I have to pay this time. The food was quality. If you are in the San Diego area and the drive and wait doesn't scare you off, check out this buffet. It was so good.

All in all (playing only penny slots) my mom left $30 ahead and I left $1 down. Not too bad considering we got a great buffet for free.

How to travel comfortably in coach.

A good article By Reid Bramblett from Yahoo travel with tips for staying comfortable while flying coach class.
Link:
http://travel.yahoo.com/p-interests-25089812

I think these are the best tips in the article:
"JetBlue offers a whopping 34 inches of “pitch” (airline-speak for legroom), compared with the standard 31 inches. And of course there’s free DirectTV on every leather seatback.

Stuck in the middle? “I’ll ask at the gate if there are any middle seats in between two people with the same last name,” says travel writer John DiScala, better known as Johnny Jet. They may well give up the aisle or window to sit together.

Another reason to check in early: Airlines routinely oversell flights, and the first passengers to be involuntarily bumped from an overflowing flight are those who check in last.

Pack your favorite things: American Airlines flight attendant Valerie Ricci carries her own tea bags because “sometimes being more comfortable is just having the things you’re comfortable with, and I like my orange spice tea.”"

Check out the article for even more great tips!

Scam Alert: www.selectyourgifts.com

Last week a friend called me very excited. She said she had received a letter in the mail that she had won a $1000 shopping spree from a local car dealership. She had already driven 30 miles to the dealership to pick up her certificate. All she had to do was pay shipping and handling on the items. Being the skeptic that I am, I asked her if she had entered any contests for that specific prize. She didn't remember entering anything like that. She read the letter to me, it specifically said to enter http://www.selectyourgifts.com/ into your browser. I know why now, so you will not search for it and see the unsavory results.

I asked her not to order anything until I could do a little research. I went straight to my favorite site for rooting out scammers, http://www.ripoffreport.com/ and searched selectyourgifts.com. I found several ripoff reports. What this company does is market itself to car dealerships, vaccuum cleaner salespeople etc. Everyone wins this so called shopping spree but you have to come in and pick up the certificate or set up a vaccuum or (insert other ridiculously overpriced item or service) sales pitch in your home.

After you get your certificate you go to the site and find yourself stunned to see your "free" dollar store merchandise there with $4-5 shipping and handling charges and a very inflated retail value. In order to spend $1000 on this site you would likely pay $300-500 in shipping charges, which would equal the real (or even more than) value of the items.

Don't waste your time on this. If you receive notice that you have won a $500 or $1000 shopping spree, call the sponsor and ask them what store it is for. If it pertains to http://www.selectyourgifts.com/, spare yourself the gas money and/or time it will take to obtain the certificate. If you want to see what kind of junk these so called prizes are, go to the website and type in "sample" for the cert. # and "sample" for the passcode. I feel that this qualifies as a scam but that is only my opinion, check it out and form your own!

Lesson for today: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

If you would like to repost this scam alert feel free, the more people who know about it the better. All I ask is that you include a link to my blog: http://simpleinspirationforeverydaylife.blogspot.com.

Why wouldn't you want him to succeed?

Maybe I'm listening to too much talk radio lately, but I keep hearing people talk about Obama like they don't want him to succeed. While I have not jumped both feet into the Obama train, I will stand behind him as long as I feel he is doing what is best for this country and for my family. I love this country and want her to prosper, so of course I want my president to succeed. I don't understand why any American would want to see him fail, if he fails, we all fail.

Crest/PG customer service

I wrote a complaint to Crest a few weeks ago and was disappointed by their response. I complained that my Crest Pro-Health tube cap had somehow came loose and the Crest leaked all over my medicine cabinet. This has both to do with the design of the cap and consistency of the product (it is "runnier" than regular Crest). Anyhow, they sent me a form letter response "sorry you had a problem, we'll forward this on to so and so" signed by "A P&G Customer Service Rep"

I was disappointed that they did not bother to address me or my concerns directly. I waited to see if I heard from a rep personally but nothing. I guess I just expected better customer service, which I am used to getting elsewhere. I would have liked for someone to write me back and acknowledge my individual concern and maybe even sign their name to the reply email.

Save money on drinks....

I keep a case of bottled water in my trunk at all times. This has served me well when I make unplanned stops at restaurants to grab a bite to eat. Rather than buying an overpriced and unhealthy soda or sugary drink, I simply grab a bottle of water out of my trunk. I spend about $4 on a case of 24 (including tax but not including CA CRV because I get that back when I recycle the bottles) so each bottle costs me about 17 cents. Much better than paying $1.79 or more for a bottle of water at a restaurant. If you like your water cold, ask for a glass of ice.

I should ad that I do not like the taste of unfiltered tap water which is why I don't order tap water at the restaurant. Many restaurants either don't filter or have what I consider "dirty filter tasting water."

Did you get gift cards for Christmas?

As always, be sure to search for coupons, coupon codes or store discounts/sales before redeeming your gift card to get maximum value!

Some tips for using gift cards from the FTC (www.ftc.gov)

Tips for using gift cards

If you have a gift card, be smart about how you use it:

Read the terms and conditions when you get the card, and check for an expiration date or any fees.

If you didn’t get the card’s terms and conditions, the original purchase receipt, or the card’s ID number, ask for them from the person who gave you the card, and then keep them in a safe place.

Treat your card like cash. If your card is lost or stolen, report it to the issuer immediately. You may be out the entire amount on the card. Some issuers don’t replace the cards, but others do if you pay a fee. If an issuer charges for a replacement card, you’ll most likely need to document the purchase and provide the ID number on the card. Most issuers have toll-free numbers to report lost or stolen cards.

Use your card as soon as you can. It’s not unusual to misplace gift cards or forget you have them; using them early will help you get the full value. However, should your card expire before you’ve had a chance to use it or exhaust its value, contact the issuer. They may still honor the card, although they may charge a fee to do that.
